Fighting for Public Education

Education is the key that our children hold to a better future. Working in multiple school systems, I have directly seen and experienced the needs of public education.

Teacher’s Pay We have to pay our teachers more because we keep asking them to do more. The same holds true for school staff. They are nurturing our children and guiding them to their future, and we need to pay them accordingly. I support innovative programs to address the teacher shortage, including funding paid apprenticeships and Grow Your Own programs

Universal Pre-K is a must. The research on this issue is indisputable. Kids need an early start, and Pre-K may be the best investment Kentuckians can make in our children’s future. And I fully support full-day Kindergarten.

No Charter Schools. I oppose charter schools, the funding of vouchers, scholarship tax credits, and any other means by which public dollars or resources are taken from public schools and used to fund private or charter schools.

Repeal SB 150 I strongly support the repeal of SB 150 and the restrictions it places on our schools, staff, and students.

Restorative Justice I support the development of guidance that integrates restorative justice practices for students while also ensuring the safety of students and staff by enforcing KRS 161.190 (abuse of teacher, classified employee, or school administrator).

Protecting Teachers’ Time I oppose the abuse of teacher time. I encourage legislators to require that teachers receive compensation for additional work that they perform as required to meet state mandates. Additionally, protect teacher planning time to include 60 minutes per day of teacher-directed non-instructional time
